Douglas pays tribute to Cedar Rapids’ historic Douglas family. George “Bruce” Douglas moved into the mansion in 1906 and christened it “Brucemore”, and his wife Irene created the famous country estate that exists today. Their daughter Margaret, owner of the famous Brucemore lions, bequeathed the property to the National Trust for Historic Preservation upon her death in 1981. Douglas on First borders the Brucemore grounds and honors the culture, architecture, and history endowed to Cedar Rapids by this family.
